Wedding Photos

As threatened by me last week, here's a few pictures taken from the wedding I went to. Without boring everyone too much, I tried to take them in a reportage style. I'd like everyone's feedback good or bad...... I can take the insults being a man and all that.

As if by magic there is a bigger version of them if you click on them. The wonders of technology.

Great pictures. I love black and white wedding photographs. My favourite is the final photograph, the activity in the background the bridesmaid and her expression but most of all the knives, which add something sinister to the shot.

I too love black and white wedding shots. They are much more atmospheric than colour. My favourite is the third one. The new bride being congratulated by the much older gentleman. I can imagine him passing on sound advice as to the recipe for a long and happy marriage.

The 3rd adn 4th pictures are briliant. The 3rd, especially, although it's a close call. So much atmosphere, expression, mood...and the characters of the people shoots right of the page. Colour photography looks 2D against them.

The composition is exellent too.

I'm in awe....

Ellie - What would the story be behind that last pic then? Hey maybe she's just found out her boyfriend wears women's underwear! Naa, bit drastic to be wielding a knife. Maybe she's been having an affair with the groom? Yeah that would do it.

Ali - That's the bride's 98 year old Granddad and if I know him he's probably discussing his latest batch of home made wine. I just wish the price list in the picture frame hadn't have been there.

Elaine - I prefer the last one mainly because, as I said to Ali, the price list in the picture frame spoils things a little. I need a few more weddings for practise. Know of any I can gatecrash?

Third pic wins for content alone. Excellent pics all round though.

Wouldn't have particularly noticed the price list if you hadn't mentioned it but now that you have...

A nice 50mm f:1.8 used fully open would have blown out the background so the price list would have been just a blur. Would have worked for all your pics too.

Michael - Hi and welcome. Unfortunately my lens only goes to f:3.5. I'd love an f1.8 at some point though.

I'd love the money for an f1.8 too!!! Mike, stick it in Photoshop, apply a guassian blur to the background, and as Michael said, you won't even notice the price list.

Ali - Years ago I had an old Pentax Spotmatic with a fixed 50mm f:1.8. I loved the thing to bits but one day it had an accident. I'd just bought a new second hand car and in the boot was a compartment in the floor. I'd left the camera in there for a couple of weeks but unbeknown to me when it rained it filled the compartment up with water. So the poor camera lay under water for ages and it was terminally ruined. :(

I actually like the price list there. The two people on their own would be great...a timeless picture...but I can imagine someone looking at this 100 years from now and being intrigued by the what's on that list. It's a perfect time stamp, and I really like it.

Hi

I can see what you were trying to achieve, they have come out well, prefer the second and third pics. Monochrome effect is good shows lots of detail.

Mike, a 1.8 50mm is relatively cheap and gives pin sharp images, great colour rendering and exeellent contrast. I got mine for $90 (Canon). A Nikon is about $120. Hell, if you can find a used one it's a steal.

I love the black and white shots, it leaves the mind free from the distraction of colour to really look into the picture.
My favourite is the old man and the bride, just stunning on so many levels.
If you really want the wine pricelist out of the shot then photo shop it out.
Great pics mike and in no way boring. xoxox

Pete - What's up? Not like you to be so complementary lol.

Savannah - Thanks, but what I haven't shown you is the 300 thousand other photos that came out rubbish!

Michael - Exeelent... Even answers.com didn't have an explanation for that word. I always thought a decent 50mm would be a lot more expensive than that. I'll be keeping my eyes open.

Kate - I did try and remove it in photoshop but gave up in temper. Thanks for your views x

Love the black and white. They're all really good, my favourites No.1 classic picture of "we're in love"
No2 Advice "listen son never get married"
No.3 Brando: "I'll be the god-father and take care of them. It's an offer you can't refuse.
No4 "Jesus, did I do the right thing."

I too love B&W pics and fancy experimenting a bit. Let's face it, with the lousy weather we are having now there will be no lovely scenes of the north york moor! Infact as I am writing this I am looking out onto thick fog!

Lovely wedding pics.
I have a canon powershot A85! Would love to take some close-ups but soimehow I hust do not have the "knack!"

terrible just fucking terrible what were you thinking? Only kidding I just wanted that to show on the recent comments thingy.
I like the B&W also I like pics in which people are captured not looking and smiling at the camera like mongs but with thought going through their heads, well done.

Paddy - well analysed, I agree with all your theories except I still think someone's about to get stabbed in the last one.

Mrs Nesbitt - Bad weather can look really good in black and white. Much more interesting than a bit of sunshine. :)

Old Knudson - Dreadful I know but I was pissed so that makes it perfectly ok.

You're right though, there's nothing worse than people staring into a camera smiling. It says nothing.
